A SIP-panel house goes up fast because the panels are prefabricated at the factory and only assembled on site — the shell takes 2–4 weeks. We don't depend on "wet" processes like poured concrete or plaster that needs to dry, so building can happen in any season.

A brick house moves through sequential stages — masonry, screeds, plastering — each with its own drying time, and many tasks stop completely in winter. That's the main reason classic builds often stretch to a year or more.

In practice, that difference in pace translates directly into cost: every extra month on site means rent or loan payments running alongside the build, plus more exposure to material price swings.

Thermal efficiency and heating costs

A 150 mm SIP wall has thermal performance comparable to a brick wall over 2 meters thick. In practice, you save on heating, and in summer many clients don't need air conditioning at all — airing the house out at night is enough.

Brick has good thermal mass (it stores heat and releases it slowly) — a real advantage in certain climates — but it needs an extra layer of insulation to match a thin SIP wall's performance, which adds time and cost to the job. That difference in thermal performance shows up directly in the energy bill year after year, not just in the year of construction.

Price — an honest comparison

At equal quality, a SIP house isn't more expensive — it's often cheaper than a brick or timber-frame house of the same standard, because the foundation is lighter, there are fewer construction stages, and the heating savings add up year after year. A brick house needs more labor (more trades, more stages) and a heavier, more expensive foundation, because it has to carry a much heavier structure. The gap becomes even more visible on larger houses, where a classic structure's weight calls for a significantly more expensive foundation and beams.

Durability, fire safety, and hygiene

The SIP panel is a monolithic structure: the OSB acts as the load-bearing layer and the expanded polystyrene as a rigid core, holding loads up to 1.5 tonnes per m² and standing up to wind, snow load, and seismic movement. We use self-extinguishing foam, protected on both sides by OSB boards and the finish, plus wiring run through protected channels — open flame doesn't reach the insulation directly.

Mold and condensation come from installation mistakes or poor ventilation, not from the material itself — we seal every panel joint and offer ventilation solutions. With correct assembly and moisture protection, a SIP house lasts 50 years or more, with no settling or cracking.

The SIP panel dampens impact noise well; for airborne sound between rooms we use frame partitions with mineral wool, which keeps the house comfortable for everyday living. All materials are certified: the polystyrene is inert and doesn't release harmful substances inside the closed panel, and the OSB's formaldehyde level stays within European norms (E0–E1).

When brick is still a good choice

Brick remains a solid option where thermal mass is a priority, or where local regulations or architectural tradition call for a certain heavy exterior finish. It's a technology tested across generations, and many clients choose it for aesthetic reasons or familiarity — we're not saying it's the wrong choice, just that it comes with a different price and a different build timeline.
